Look out Henry Cavill!

As kids, my brother and I had some pretty rad superhero jammies. We would wear them everywhere, the store, ball games, church(ok, not church) but we loved them and would act like the characters we were dressed as.
When I wore my Superman jammies I would lie on my stomach across things like chairs and ottmons and pretend to fly. My favorite was going to the playground and using the swings.
I wish I had some of those old photos of my siblings and I to post but they're all at my mom's house. But for now here's something that shows that anyone can fly, they just have to be creative.

Puh-tero-dak-tyle!

I thoroughly enjoy pterodactyls, they are the birds of dinosaurs. And I like birds...and dinosaurs.

Hedge hog

I said it before and I'll say it again...I like a good pun. Of course, I'm not sure if this is so much a pun as it is just being super literal...ahh, who knows. But, I just think this is a funny idea. A hog hanging out in someones backyard in a hedge...just waiting.

Drawing with kids

This past Saturday, members of the AAU children's book club volunteered at the SF public library and spent the afternoon drawing with children. We had a decent turnout and had a great time talking to the kids while they were drawing. Each of them made a great little booklet to take home with them filled with their own work.

You can see some photos of the event at: www.aauchildrensbook.blospot.com

While the kids were drawing I made a little story of my own, "Bobby goes to Mars". The narrative is pretty bad and the drawing aren't much to look at but it was a quickie so cut me some slack.

Star Trek big-head guys

I've been watching the old '60's episodes of Star Trek and they are F-U-N. Shatner is insane and the sets are cheesy and have crazy techno-color lighting. These alien guys are actually from the unaired pilot episode and I thought they would be fun to draw. The make up effects for these aliens were great, throbbing veins on their watermelon sized domes and foreheads you could land a helicopter on. Good work 1960's.

Galapagos or bust

Turtles are awesome and I would like to swim with, ride or just be in the general vicinity of them. Someday I'll accomplish this goal, whether I have to move to Hawaii or the Galapagos Islands or just break into an aquarium and hop in the tank. This is the gauntlet I've laid down for myself.

Quick sketch tonight of the coolest guy in the north having himself a frosty treat.

Lab mice

Here are some sketches from a project I'm working on. The one with the cat was "respectfully passed on". It got some chuckles but I guess the inferred dangerous experimentation on the cat was a bit much.

dawwww...cute...

Here is another spot illustration I did for the same project as the tiger gardener. This one didn't make the final cut but I liked it and decided to paint it and share with you fine folks.

Groundhogs

Being home and driving around in the country I always forget how many critters are hiding in the grass on the side of the road. It seems like I saw a dozen groundhogs today, just hanging out in the tall grass, popping their heads up and watching the cars zip past.

Veggie sketches

Here are a couple held over sketches from another project I've been working on. The idea was cute vegetables: above and below the soil.

Happy 4th

Remember when you were a kid and you wanted the July 4th to be filled with a crazy fireworks displays and awesome explosions using roman candles, bottle rockets, m-80's and fire crackers?

And instead you got a handful of sparklers and a box of snakes?

This is for all those kids who dreamed bigger.

Ducks in a row

Another quick sketch.

This is another spot illustration from a series of "Gardening Animals" I'm doing. I plan on coloring these little guys soon but just wanted to do a line drawing for now.

Tiger gardener

I drew a sketch of a tiger with a wheel barrow of mulch for a project about animals in the garden and just liked it so much that I decided to paint him up.
