Princess and the Bee

Here are some illustrations I did last Spring for my Children's book class. The theme was to do an interpretation of "The Princess and the Pea".  I decided to go with "The Princess and the Bee".

I had sort of forgotten about this story until my friend Ciaee reminded me about it and told me she liked the concept. It was a fun project to work on originally so I think Im going to go back and rework what I have and finish this one.

The Silky

and we're back. Haven't been keeping up with my once a week postings but I'll try to post what I can when I can. This whole grad school thing, who knew it would take up so much time...

Anyhows...here is The Silky, basically a chicken with a more rad hair-do.

Im going to start posting other things than just flightless birds, just to stir the pot a bit.

Project: Flightless Birds

Alright sports fans, here is the situation - I planned on making a series of illustrations called "Flightless Birds", pretty self explanatory as to what that entails.

But now it's finally going to happen. I have motivation, a plan and goal - Complete one bird every week whether its a sketch, digital painting or traditional illustration. And if I miss a week, I double up the following week. Scott Campbell (Amazing Everything, The Great Showdowns) spoke at our school this past week and made a comment about posting just anything as long as you're posting work.

Here is the first just to kick things off, my favy...

Animals are my friends

I love animals. They are just awesome and interesting to me. I could literally spend countless hours at zoos or aquariums and have. Birds and fish are among my favorites to draw for the shear fact that there are so many species of each but I still love sketching household pets just the same. Here are a couple watercolor spot illustrations from the archives.

More animals coming soon...

Sorry it's been a while since my last post, Im sure all, and by all I mean none, of you were concerned and or cared but I digress...
Here are the final versions of my Big Round Red short
Im planning on doing more of these short narratives that revolve around the theme of a color. So look forward to those in the near future.

Twilight Zone tribute

The classic late '50's - '60's television show created by the inimitable Rod Serling is one of my favorite shows of all time. The stories are still, even by today's standards, incredibly inventive, frightening and profound.

I am working on a number of covers and key scenes from certain episodes. This is just a sketch of Mr. Smith(Burgess Meredith) from "The Printer's Devil" and a cover for "The Howling Man".

Big Round Red

these are the thumbnails for a short narrative I am submitting to a sequential art magazine called "Figments". I'll post the finished versions once I am done. The theme for the story is big round red.

I think some of the strongest stories are the one that don't require any words. Bill Watterson of Calvin & Hobbes and David Wiesner are masters of this method. Not that I am comparing myself to either one of those gentlemen.

this is the finished version...

Newby

I apologize for this blog being so barren currently but I aim to change that very soon.
I am Miles, this is my first time doing a blog and I don't know what to do or say so I'm just going to hush up and post some work.

These are some very early roughs for a series I am working on called "Flightless Birds". I am a fan of animals, birds in particular and always kind of felt for the ones that couldn't soar through the sky. So I'm trying to get them up there with the rest.
