Splotch: The end is near

Don't let the title of this post fool you, the end is near but in a good way. Im in the final stages of my book Splotch. Im about halfway through the painting stage. Here are a few panels that are either done or 95% done.

Turtle-Dove!

Here is the first of many "play on words" illustrations that I will be making.  The Turtle-Dove!

Thumbnails: Princess & the Bee

Here are the thumbnail pages to "Princess & the Bee", my interpretation of the classic tale "Princess & the Pea". Again, this was a fun project and I would really like to go back in and rework some parts of it when I get the time.

GRAVEMAN!!!

So Im helping my buddy Andrew do some preproduction work on his animation thesis project called "Graveman". It's about a confused young lad named Gus who finds himself wandering through the woods at night. His lantern goes out and he heads for a lit up house he sees atop a hill. On the way he has a run-in with a monstrous man with a shovel arm. Pursued by this "Graveman", Gus gets to the house, which turns out to be a mausoleum, opens the door and is face to face with a shadowy entity who is quite interested in swallowing Gus whole.

What will happen to Gus???

Here are some props and clean-ups I did for the project.

It's gonna be awesome...

Rikki Tikki Tavi

I finally get to take a stab at illustrating one of my favorite childhood stories, Rikki Tikki Tavi by Rudyard Kipling.

If you are unfamiliar with the story, it's about a mongoose who protects a family from a pair of cobras in late 1800's India. It's a great short story and was adapted into a 30 minute animated cartoon by the one and only Chuck Jones in the mid-seveties. Definitely read it and check out the Chuck Jones cartoon.

I'm taking a Visual Development class with Anthony Christov. So far it's been super fun developing the thumbnails and characters in my own style. Anthony's a great instructor and overall a pretty awesome human.

Here are some of the thumbnails and character sketches thus far.

Keep in mind that these are rough character sketches and I should have more developed designs within the next few couple weeks. The thumbs are pretty close but need some more rendering.

Food for thought: Is the plural term for mongoose mongeese?

hmmmmm.............

Sneek Peek: Kakapo & Emu

And a Happy New Year to you as well...

Being home is rough on the ol' creative process. Plus I'm lazy....but slowly getting back into the swing of it. Here is just a quick sketch of characters I will be using in an upcoming story centered around a kakapo and an emu.

I'll be posting some more sometime soon...
