Rikki Tikki Tavi

I finally get to take a stab at illustrating one of my favorite childhood stories, Rikki Tikki Tavi by Rudyard Kipling.

If you are unfamiliar with the story, it's about a mongoose who protects a family from a pair of cobras in late 1800's India. It's a great short story and was adapted into a 30 minute animated cartoon by the one and only Chuck Jones in the mid-seveties. Definitely read it and check out the Chuck Jones cartoon.

I'm taking a Visual Development class with Anthony Christov. So far it's been super fun developing the thumbnails and characters in my own style. Anthony's a great instructor and overall a pretty awesome human.

Here are some of the thumbnails and character sketches thus far.

Keep in mind that these are rough character sketches and I should have more developed designs within the next few couple weeks. The thumbs are pretty close but need some more rendering.

Food for thought: Is the plural term for mongoose mongeese?

hmmmmm.............
