Allergies

Sorry I didn't post anything last night and was only able to muster this quickie tonight, but I got hit with a bad allergy attack and now my eye, nose and ears are betraying me. I'll be over it soon enough and back to making "quality" art, just gotta get the good drugs.

Bull

Cows are fun animals, they are big, funny, slow moving and are adorable. This one looks more on the angry side but he's a big ol' softy. I'm not sure what made me draw a bull tonight but I did it and I won't apologize.

Nessie

I'm a big fan of urban legends and all the lore behind things like Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, Ogopogo and the rest. Who's to say if they're out there or not. Sure scientists keep compiling all this "evidence" but there have been enough "sightings" to have an argument, good or not. I donno, I think its fun to have an open mind and imagine that these creatures do exist. Plus I'm pretty sure "Harry and the Hendersons" was a documentary.

Anyways, I like the unknown and I done drew Nessie.

Wake up call

As a kid I was never really an early riser and wasn't one to wake up my parents. Mostly because my mom wakes up at like 5am or something ridiculous like that. But I always find parents stories of the different ways their kids wake them pretty amusing. This is just something I thought would be fun to do to a parent.

Pig in a pen

I've been slacking off the last couple days, other things just piled up and I couldn't concentrate long enough to flush out a complete thought. So for tonight I went back to basics and just did a quick drawing of a piggy in the mud.

Husky pup

The husky is one of my favorite dogs. As a matter of fact, growing up, we had two huskies, both named Shadow(I & II). They were just lovely dogs, every time they got loose they would take us on a wild goose chase around our property toying with us as we tried to catch them. Tons of fun. But I do miss them and I hope to own another one in the future.

Moving

No, it wasn't me who was moving but I did help a friend of mine move into our apartment. Just a long day of driving and lifting heavy boxes and walking up stairs. But the good news is that we have a friendly and familiar face back in the house.

Swinging at beach balls

You ever hear the expression in baseball "The pitcher is lobbing up beach balls"? If you haven't, it basically means the pitcher is doing so bad the batters are absolutely destroying his pitches. Well today fate was lobbing up some potential dingers left and right and I couldn't hit a-one of 'em, I might have foul-tipped one but still... it was a bad day at bat. Oh well...there will plenty of other chances at the plate...maybe.

p.s. - sorry if this sounds like a downer, it isn't meant to be. I find my bad luck rather amusing, so please, laugh with me.

Mush!

This is probably an idea every kid with a big dog around the house has. And then there are those kids who don't own big dogs and have the same idea and try it anyways. Sadly I never had the chance to do this with any of my dogs, and I could have built my own dog sled team. We had five quite large pooches around my house at one time, six, counting the old, wise husky. Oh missed opportunities...

Types of eggs

I don't know...

I was just sitting here and suddenly I had the urge to draw an egg with a face... and it lead to this. I may expand on this idea sometime, but I guess I gotta be in a certain kind of mood.

long day, quick sketch

Had a long day today, not bad, just long. My brain wasn't wanting to be too creative so it went into safety mode and drew a bird. But a bird dressed in a comfy hoodie, some moccasins, and having a cup a coffee to unwind, much like myself.

Tom Servo

One of my favorite shows of all time is "Mystery Science Theatre 3000", it had a huge impact on forming my sense of humor. I'm not sure who my favorite character is, everyone has such great one-liners, its hard to choose but Tom Servo is such a fun-looking character, I had to draw him.

Looking at Chris Sanders art today

The title should explain it all, I was perusing Chris Sanders site today, looking at his work and reading his hilarious "Kiskaloo" comic strip. So for my post today I just started sketching and this is what came out.

Harriet the Spy sketches

So I'm reading "Harriet the Spy" and aim to illustrate some of the scenes from the book. Here are a few character sketches of Ol' Golly's mom, Harriet and Sport. I'm not sure if these will carry through until the final illustrations but these were the first concepts that dropped out of my pencil. Although, Ol' Golly's mom is pretty close as to how I see her in the book.

Quail

Ahh...the quail...so majestic and funny looking with that thingie dangling off of their heads. I don't really have much of a reason as to why I painted one tonight. I just like them.

gouache/watercolor - 2x3in.

Bus nap

I was all set to draw something completely different tonight but on the way home I was on the bus and right across from me was a dad holding his passed out son in his lap. The kid looked waaay out, completely limp with his head firmly mushed into his dad's chest. I thought it was a cute scene so I drew it.

more clownfish-es

I had so much fun painting a clownfish last night, I drew another one this morning before work. I again choose to draw a black clownfish with an orange face. I love adding a small splash(heh) of color to an otherwise black, white and gray scale image.

Clownfish

I realize that most people probably think of "Finding Nemo" when you see or hear about a clownfish, I know I do. But they are a beautiful species of fish with or without the association. And I recently discovered that there are black clown fish as well, they might be even more striking than the orange and white ones. It's personal preference but I saw one, loved it and I had to paint one.

watercolor - 2x3 in.

back to school kids

Here is a portion of a "Back to school" sign I'm making for a store front window. The sign was done in acrylic paint which I'm beginning to like more and more but gouache will always be my favey. Out of all the kids I painted, I think I like the chubby one most, he has such a sweet face.

It ain't easy being green

So I have another excuse for not posting again last night, wanna hear? No internet. That's a good one right?? Anyways here's another gouache painting I did this evening of a pleasant froggy.

firefly

No, not the awesome Joss Whedon/Nathan Fillion show that was taken off the air waaay to soon but the actual insect. These guys are pretty awesome themselves, butts all lighting up and stuff. I used to love catching them in my yard as a kid. They are one of the quintessential icons of summer nights. Sadly they aren't indigenous to SF so I haven't seen any in a while.

gouache, 2x3in.

Polar pals

Nothing crazy, I was feeling frisky today so I busted out the gouache and did a lil illustration of a polar bear and his penguin buddy looking off into the distance. What are they looking for? Adventure...or possibly a snack, who's to say.

Actual size: 2x3 in.

Breakfast of champions

Ok, so its only been three days since I said I was going to do a sketch a day and I missed posting something yesterday, so I kinda fail. BUT, I posted like six sketches the first day so that should count for something...right?

Anyways, here is a kid who just looooves peanut butter and jelly(much like myself).

Girl with a big bag

My friend Joie is doing a sketch-a-day thing this month and since I have to be a copy cat, I'm going to attempt to do the same.

Check out her stuff @: http://www.joieart.net/

Anyhows, I saw a girl earlier with a book bag on her back, it wasn't an overly big bag by any mean but the way she was standing it looked like it was full of rocks. This is the quick sketch I did and how I imagined the bag from her posture.

Sketches

Just some sketches of animals on some index cards. I haven't just sketched in pencil in awhile, so today after working on a personal project I just sat around a coffee shop and drew for a couple hours. These were a few of what I done.
